Choose a Repellent More Fierce Than the Bugs
10 hours of rugged protection.
Normal use of DEET does not present a health risk to humans when applied to the skin per label instructions. DEET has been used to repel insects since the 1940s, and comprehensive toxicity testing has been done to review the safety of DEET as a repellent.
There are several theories as to how DEET repels insects. One of the most popular theories is that DEET works to confuse and deter mosquitoes from where it has been applied. DEET interferes with a mosquito's legs and antennae making it harder for them to detect humans who have applied the product to their skin. Mosquitoes use their receptors to detect carbon monoxide and body heat to locate humans/animals, and DEET works as a cloaking device to disorient mosquitoes and prevent them from biting.
Ben's 30 Tick & Insect Repellent contains 30% DEET, making it a perfect choice when hiking, camping, or enjoying other outdoor activities in areas of light to heavy insect infestation or whenever ticks may be present.
Ben's 100 Tick & Insect Repellent contains 100% DEET, the highest concentration available – and therefore the longest-lasting DEET formula. Our maximum DEET formula is recommended for use in areas of heavy infestation and will provide up to 10 hours of protection against biting insects and ticks.
We use water instead of alcohol as the base for Ben's 30 Tick & Insect Repellent because water does not evaporate as quickly as alcohol, resulting in a longer-lasting formula.
Alcohol also creates a strong aroma, contributing to the traditional bug spray smell. The water-based Ben's 30 Tick & Insect Repellent formula does not have a scent that is as strong as some alcohol-based repellents.
A higher percentage of DEET does not mean that your protection is better, just that it will last longer. The amount of DEET in a repellent only determines how long you'll be protected. Lower concentrations of DEET may need to be reapplied more often depending on the activity and length of time outdoors.
Ben's DEET formulas repel mosquitoes, ticks, black flies, fleas, biting midges, chiggers, sand fleas, stable flies, and more.
Our trademarked Eco-Spray® delivery system is an environmentally-friendly system for applying repellent, as it does not use any ozone-depleting propellants. Eco-Spray cans release a fine mist at any angle for consistent coverage and can be sprayed in any direction, unlike pump sprays that can only be sprayed while in an upright position.
Shake the bottle well. Hold the bottle 6 – 8 inches away from the clothing or gear to be treated and spray with a slow sweeping motion to lightly moisten the fabric. Spray until the surface is visibly darkened. Let the clothing or gear dry for at least 2 hours before using. Refer to the package instructions for further details. The 0.5% permethrin formula protects your items for up to 6 weeks and through several wash cycles.
When applied to clothing or gear per the label directions, the permethrin bonds tightly to the fabric. When you come into contact with ticks or insects, permethrin acts as a barrier by repelling insects and killing them on contact.
The Ben's UltraNet Head Net has a comfortable, form-fitting design with pores only 0.05 mm wide, keeping even the tiniest insects out, including no-see-ums, midges, and black flies.
The Ben's InvisiNet Head Net is the highest visibility head net on the market. With a pore size of only 1.0 mm, the InvisiNet Head Net protects from gnats, mosquitoes, and black flies without impeding your vision.
The Ben's InvisiNet XTRA Head Net with Insect Shield is our highest visibility head net, but with the added protection of Insect Shield's permethrin technology that both repels and kills bugs on contact.
Ben's is manufactured in small batches in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, so you can be sure it's been tested on some of the toughest bugs around.
